It's definitely the mainboard BIOS that sees that there is no IDE HD 
attached and is whiningh about that. Pressing enter results in booting 
from SCSI ID0, selecting BBS-0 in the BIOS boot menue boots from the 
SCSI CD - after "disk 1 is not ready" followed by Enter key.

I know this from an really new ABIT and some Elitegroup mainboards. 
Switching adapter + Disk + CD + cable onto another mainboard and all 
works perfectly.

When nothing helps one has to fiddle around which PCI slot will able 
to see the SCSI BIOS and will the mashine boot from it. Not each PCI 
slot in combination with other PCI cards will be able to handle SCSI 
in any manner. But at least "drive 1 is not ready" is inevitable until 
an IDE disk is inerted.
