Well, this is the Mac 26 that has just entered production, and it is the
version that adverstises the 50hp motor/sailer version, so I guess it is the
26x. Now, I have gotten some messages from folks about the amount of
freeboard (full standing room cabin), and the compromises with the hull shape
so that you can get her up on plane with the motor possibly compromising the
sailing stability. I am strictly, in this life ,a weekend sailor, and
darned inexperienced. This is the interim boat. I've got my 1974 Clipper 21
that I am learning on, then am looking at the Mac to get into the cruising
life. Then, when my private investigations company gets off the ground
(heading that way quickly), start periodic serious cruising in some blue
water with perhaps a Hunter, or similar 28-35 footer. I am glad to hear of
someone doing the liveaboard thing with a Mac. If you rely on only Cruising
World or Sail magazine for your info, you get the impression that Macgregor
doesn't exist.
BTW, I am thinking about doing the Sea of Cortez in about three or four years
for a few weeks. I am dying to find out how it is, and to get any cruising
tips.
Take care. Looking forward to hearing from you in the near future.
