Went through a similar experience once. We'd lost our lead singer and
brought this guy in to sing and play guitar. Aside from the fact that he
wasn't the pleasantest guy to work with he played loud even in a small
room. On our second practice I brought a sound level meter with me and
measured him at 98 db average. I didn't want him in the group but the
other guys didn't know where we'd get another singer. Eventually he
ticked off one of the other guys with his marvellous attitude and that
did it. We eventually went with a female singer who was just great.
