| subject: | Used Monitor? |
Hi All'
Well, my trusty 1081 monitor finally packed it in. 8^(
Eight years isn't really a bad innings.
And you can stop laughing Mr. Freeman.
So I went hunting through the Trading Post (lucky it's Thursday) and
found a 1084S for sale. The kid selling it, said on the phone that the
screen was purple, and had been for some time. I asked if the monitor
had a permanent home, or if it was packed away after each (ab)use.
He said it usually got thrown back in the cupboard when he'd finished
doing whatever he was doing.
At this point I knew I was onto what was probably an almost unused (read
new) monitor.
I headed on down to his place, not more than 5 minutes from home, and
handed over $150 for my new toy.
My thoughts were thus. Red+Green+Blue is what my machine outputs, but
what if you take away the Green. I knew that with all the movement this
monitor had seen, that it was most likely a dud cable causing his
problem.
When I got it home, I immediately attacked the cable with a screwdriver,
and opened the 25pin end. Whaddayaknow, the Green signal wire had parted
from the pin. A quick dab from the old soldering iron, and Voila, it's
fixed.
P.S. The kid also threw in a 9 pin dot matrix printer, 2 joysticks, an
external disk drive, a shootload of disks and an A500. 8^)
There's no A501 in the machine, and I think it has a Rev 3 or 4
motherboard.(so no major hacking in store) and the kid couldn't find the
A520 modulator.
So my daughter is about to become the owner of a shiny new computer, and
probably my 1081, if I can find a flyback transformer for it.
Cache Ya,
