| subject: | Hard Drive manufacturers |
Hi Viktor! :-) VP> Here is some interesting question i've got: Why in different regions VP> of the world different hard drives manufacturers are percieved VP> totally different? Around here it's all based on personal experience. I've heard enough stories of "X makes bad drives" to have every manufacturer turn up as X at least once. Well, almost. I never heard anything bad about Samsung drives except for their poor performance (which I don't agree with, my Samsung 40GB does 30 MB/s and is very quiet even during heavy seeking). IBM has a very bad reputation here because of their f*cked up DTLA and early IC35 (I think that was the name) series of drives. Their earlier drives had a very good reputation, though. Lots of people I know bought their DTTA 10GB model. I used to have the 16GB model of that series - it didn't fail on me, I replaced it with the Samsung because I wanted more space.
