I sail a 1994 Mac 26 in the Sea of Cortez (Gulf of California, dividing Baja
California from the Mexican Mainland), and find it excellent for my
day-sailing purposes. But you said "new MacGregor 26's", which I think are
called MacGregor 26X. MacGregor has terminated production of the original 26
in order to build these high-powered motor-sailers. My Mac has a 9.9 hp
Johnson outboard for getting on and off the trailer, and occasional use at
sea. The 26X has a 50 HP bruiser of an outboard on a bigger transom, a ship's
wheel instead of a tiller, and other changes suiting it to power boat use.
The sails are apparently not interchangeable, but similar.

Since you said it was priced at 15k with necessaries, it's probably the older
26, not the 26X power sailer.

Let me know which you're looking at. If it's a 26 rather than the new 26X,
I'll be glad to share more with you.
