Hi Ann Marie...I am one of those parents that had 3 AD(H)D kids back
before they knew what it was...they were diagnosised as "hyper-active"..
they were a handful, let me tell you..not only problems in school but
at home between themselves and the rest of their brothers and sisters...
My oldest was put into a special school for "trouble makers"..he had one
on three classes and did very well...but when he got into High School...
he was always getting into trouble...all kinds of work up were done but
he finally quit when he was 17...he has since completed High School but he
is still very hyper, not aggressive anymore, he has learned to handle that.
the other two went to a regular grade school..they were just "hyper", not
aggressive as the oldest but it was still a challenge. Years later, I found
out that both my oldest daughter and myself had ADD symptoms...but we have
both been able to handle them...My daughter has three children, two are
AD(H)D, the third is just 4 months old so we have to wait to find out about
him...I have 5 other grandchildren that are AD(H)D...and a few of the girls
are being tested now, so there may be a few more..seems to run in families.
By the way, I have 8 children altogether.

As for how I coped..it took a lot of patience and I made many mistakes..
I would yell and scream but they didn't pay attention...I found that when
I would seperate them and give them individual attention, as best I could,
things were a bit better...we lived in the country so they had chores and
that helped some, also...they were given responsibilities..I also found out
that the "hyper" kids required more food than the others...they burned up
so much energy each day just by being themselves...It was not easy and I
probably would have put them on medicine if I had known about it years ago.
But we all survived..my kids are still hyper today, but they have all found
ways of handling it within themselves...
I can only tell you, hang in there..this echo helps a great deal in learning
that others have the same problems as you and have learned to cope...it is
not easy but it can be done...:)
