with a similar no-boot-until-BIOS-upgraded problem.  I luckily already had

   I've always tried to prepare for a system hosing as much as possible,
but this is the first time it seems like more than a remote chance.  Should
I tell Grandma in another state to disable Windows automatic update until
the manufacturer certifies her machine for SP2?
