Since I have returned to this echo I have made every effort to avoid the
discussion of religion. I have made mention of it as it DIRECTLY related to
my history with A/A. I have not made mention of this history to flame or to
start arguments. I have made mention of it because Is see here and other
places that while not the majority it does reflect a path that some walk in
recovery. The result of my few comments has been that the religious and
pious members of this conference have felt the need to point out their own
right to have the "Lords" prayer at meetings and yet another who insisted on
being kind and sticking "The love of Christ" in my face. I have no need to
practice my religion in this echo. I do not even sign my messages with a
religious note, unless it is in reply to the same from someone of like mind.
I left this conference because of the same situation. I have a choice,
either be silent in reference to my A/A history (one I have walked WITHOUT a
sponsor because none would have me in this area!) or suffer religious debate
after religious debate and then be blamed for reacting to them in kind. In
my life outside this echo I am know nationally for my Ant-christian position.
I believe it the greatest evil that mankind has ever spawned. That is not
recovery nor does it have a place in this echo. It remains that I am offended
when somone preaches at me about their religion. It does not matter if it is
socially acceptable to do so, it is offensive. I do not mind if somone
states that thier christ helped them with.... whatever, I am offended when
they tell me "Jesus loves you and you are his... " or like dribble. What
would be the stink should I Say "I cast as spell with your name on it today,
in an effort to force you to believe the same as me" It would be a great
insult, yet the same coming from a christian is supposed to be alright? I do
not feel that my position is out of hand, or inconsistent with what I have
read in the Big book nor what the program stands for. I am not attempting to
force my position on anyone, its mine alone, its right for me. Yet this is
my position and I will hold to it. Should you or anyone else not want me in
the conference I will be glad to pack it up and stay out. I choose to bring
this to your direct attention should there be any confusion on my position.
Thank you..
