PMFBI, especially at an apparent end of a thread, but OS/2 can be
configured to run _without_ the PM window! It's a little complicated to
explain it all, but there's an inexpensive program ($25), Performance 2.1,
that has REXX routines to setup such a disk, floppy or fixed. This would
eliminate many of the video complications that interupt the otherwise
smoothly operating pre-emptive multi-tasking.
Another option you might consider is a device-driver. These programs
can be run at Ring-0, 1 or 2. Applications usually run at level 2, while
some system device drivers, and the scheduler run at Ring-0.
One of the reasons I think I enjoy OS/2 so much is the way it feels like
putty in the hands :-) !
