Filmation did "TAS" trying to re-capture a lot of what made the original show 
in the animated series. The series started in 1973 and the writers including 
many of those that had done scripts for the original show. Not all the 
original cast was involved in this project, Walter Koenig comes to mind 
although he did no voice overs.. he wrote an episode for the series.
 
Roddenbery was involved including "updating" the Enterprise and adding more 
alien crew members. 
 
 
TAS premiered 7 years after the TOS premiere also on NBC. Sadly it was short 
lived.
