CL> I think I may have to reconsider my visit! ;) But the colar might

AA> You would be quite welcome to it.
Great! I need a new colar for him, since he's almost outgrown the adjustable
one I had.
AA> What you do with it in the privacy of your own home is not my
AA> business.
Lets not go there. We might get the moderators and posters upset. I've
known you for several years, but these folks don't! :)
AA> If Ben has a light coloured fur, the black collar and the studs

AA> blackness.
Ben has "diluted" shepard markings. His ruff is a mix of tan and black, in a
brindly kind of way. We'll have to see.
AA> I plead total ignorance now. Harness, halter - don't know the
AA> difference. But yes, I would like to get the kind of gizmo that
AA> would be designed for pulling work.
AA> I suppose a halter is much shorter and just fits around the chest
AA> area? Whereas a harness is "longer" ?
Nope! A halter is the same as one used for a horse. It fits around the
dog's head and muzzle. It keeps him from pulling by turning his head to the
side when he tries to pull ahead. Works great, doesn't hurt the dog, but you
do get some questions from people who think you've muzzled your dog for some
reason. A harness fits around the dog's chest and body. I'm not sure about
the concept of those that advertise them as stopping a dog from pulling
though. I looked at them when I was at the pet shop the other day, and I'll
be darned if I can figure them out! They look *way* too complicated!
I want to teach Ben how to pull a cart eventually. I've seen the harnesses
they sell for that, so I'm assuming those aren't the ones you couldn't
figure, because they are quite straight forward. A padded breast-plate, and
a strap that fits around the chest are basically what these are. They have a
couple of "loops" where you can attach the lines for pulling a sled or cart.
