Hi, Craig. I called the company that sells VxWorks - got an answering machine - no return calls yet. So far you are the only knowledgeable person I have found that has any experience with VxWorks. The F- Embedded echo has not been frutiful either thus far. This consulting firm told me they are looking for several people. Is lower NY State of interest to you? Outside NYC? Net mail me, OK? CS>VxWorks is a stand-alone operating system. I have used it on Force VME 6802 CS>68030, and 68040 boards. It is available for a wide range of other target CS>systems, however, including VME SPARC boards. I don't see how VxWorks has CS>anything to do with OS/2 aside from having a few somewhat similar features h CS>and there, but that's typical of many operating systems. Not to worry, Craig. Very fuzzy job requirement specs. It doesn't seem likely that VxWorks *runs* on either UNIX or OS/2. I have used several RTOS multi-tasking systems in the past. I had to tweak the kernels to get them to meet specs. Is VxWorks a multi-tasking RTOS? What do you use for a development system to build and test (to target) the VxWorks with the apps? OS/2 maybe - or UNIX - other? CS>I used to work for a company that at the time was doing around $4-5 million CS>year in business in real-time embedded systems. Since then, they have doubl CS>or tripled in size and most of their work is still real-time systems. Be that as it may, Craig, if I had to survive waiting for outside, on-site contract work for RT stuff, at the rates I like to earn, I would likely be working as a permanent employee somewhere. Similarly for virtually everything I have ever done as a contractor for the last 20 years or so. In case you never viewed it this way, indivdual consultants/contractors are treated like a commodity - like tomaotes If there is an oversupply of certain kinds of tomatoes and and a low demand, rates go down. And vice versa. The trick to earning high rates as a consultant/contractor is being the right kind of tomatoe that is in short supply. Think upon this, long and hard, the next time you are negotiating your consulting rate. They don't refer to the consulting business as being in a feast or famine mode for nothing. Thanks. I much appreciate your help. I hope I was helpful too. :) Regards, -= Lou =- --- WM v3.10/91-0154* Origin: ACORN I * Marlboro, NY * USR 28.8 (1:2624/503.0) SEEN-BY: 12/2442 54/54 620/243 624/50 632/348 640/820 690/660 711/409 410 413 SEEN-BY: 711/430 807 808 809 934 942 712/353 623 713/888 800/1 @PATH: 2624/503 701 101 3615/50 229/2 12/2442 711/409 54/54 711/808 809 934 |
