| subject: | SP2 DEP Issues |
From: "Frank Haber" Anyone else seen problems with the somewhat inchoate Data Execution Protection, a trainer-wheels software form of what's coming for us all in the 64-bit world? I haven't seen it myself yet, but a friend got bit bad with a stalled install of some VBNET package or other. He had to back off to yesterday, turn off the DEP service for "all except named apps," then reinstall. He's not sure all NET components are kosher yet - more later. He pointed me to this Q: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=875351 I'm hearing generally positive things from small users, but there may be problems with PCAnywhere 10. Symantec says all is ducky, of course. Very preliminary indications seem to say things go smoother on a machine patched to latest under SP1 than with somethng off the shelf that needs lots of updates. And the CD local install seems lots better than depending on the net for a patch this big. -- -Frank --- BBBS/NT v4.01 Flag-5* Origin: Barktopia BBS Site http://HarborWebs.com:8081 (1:379/45) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 @PATH: 379/45 1 396/45 106/2000 633/267 |
