Hello Peter,
PH> As for OS/2 and real-time...hard to say. I have scanned the indices of
PH> many OS/2 books and rarely found entries for interrupt latency or
PH> response time, let alone "real-time" or any variation
thereof. Even the
PH> "Design of OS/2" book mentions real-time only in the
context of Ethernet
PH> (which isn't) and Multimedia (which is, but on the level of the user, not
PH> process control). In fact, to date, every "official" mention of
PH> real-time in relation to OS/2 has been some sort of "soft"
real-time and
PH> not the hard stuff relevant to most industrial control (excepting only
PH> things like chemical processes that need only a few cycles a second or
PH> minute).
I work on this issue, too, about this theme I wanted to make my Diplom
('grade'). I was encouraged to do this by the real time stuff mentioned by
mastrianni and others, but what you say is somehow disappointing. Also,
here in germany it's more difficult to get information; I waited for my
mastrianni 7 weeks.
Well, I only wanted to mention that there are people all around who are
interested in OS/2-real time capabilities.
