BHBB>expectancy? I don't particularly pay too much attention to the average
BB>numbers but would like to get some kind of an idea. Thanks for listening
BB>and any info anyone can provide.
BHI'd say if cared for well and fed a good diet, it would be safe to say
something like 15 to 25 years.
Diet wise he's eating very well, and I am good with his general
care so I'm sure he'll be around awhile. Thanks.
I have a maroon bellied conure that must be 15 by now. I have seen
ringnecks and quakers that were somewhere around 20 and still going
strong. I have another friend with a 15 year old quaker and one of mine
is about eight, and I still have his father of undetermined years. I
have a friend with a 30 year old breeding mexican redhead amazon, and I
have one that is at least 15 and another orange wing that is at least
13, and a cockatiel the same age. I had a banded tiel die last year that
was banded 1980. The old maroon belly got paired up with a one year old
hen last year and are on eggs now! Doing fine.
I think they live longer than we used to think. Adverse conditions will
get the very young and very old first though. yet some of these old
rascals are weathering the winter outdoors here in Fl just fine.
I picked up my first cockatiel back in 1980, he's doing great still.
He does show his age a bit though. Not as vocal as he used to be. He
does still whistle and sing back and forth on his perch just not as long
as he used to. He is also terrified of Sunny so I keep them across the
room from each other.
