one way is from a command-line, like with dos...

Linux is not windows. there's whole bunch of different graphical user
intefaces avaiable, some of them have taskbars, most of them have from
pop-up menus (like the display properties menu in windows, but they do
different things).  the command-line is very powerful too, there's at-least
two different styles of command-line available, too.
