Hello Roy.

14 Jun 06 19:14, you wrote to me:
MvdV>>>> Let's wait for the court ruling shall we.

 RW>>> That could take years.

 MvdV>> I am not in a hurry.

RW> Expediency is the name of the game in this case. Stopping pirate bay
 RW> is number one priority.

*Their* priority. Tyey don't mind playing the game of strething for time
when the shoe is on the other foot. Microsoft has the nasty habit of
infringing on others rights and then draaging the case for years until the
opponent is bamkrupt.

RW> When they fall, other heads will roll soon after.

Do not underestimate the power od the consumer. All that money spent on
lawyers comes from the pockets of the consumers. Once they realise thet....

MvdV>> If the treaties make US copyright law enforcible in other
MvdV>> countries that signed the treaty, then the same treaty makes
MvdV>> Dutch copyright law enforcible in the US.

 RW> Perhaps...

Why the perhaps? All those treaties are bilateral agreements.

MvdV>> Hmmm, I like that, if you are right, I *can* sue Shannon Talley
MvdV>> for stepping on my rights after all....

RW> Like you've been told, you have no case, so you will be laughed out of
 RW> court.

Those who told that had no idea what they were talking about.

RW>>> I suppose they're enforcing Svedish laws then.

MvdV>> Of course they are. at least that is what they think. We shall
MvdV>> wait to see if the court agrees with the prosecution.

RW> Oh, the court makes the decision, even though it's tried by jury?

They have juries in Sweden? Don't think so.

RW>>> Wouldn't it be better for the software pirates in those
RW>>> countries if your governments hadn't signed such treaties? Then
RW>>> there wouldn't be such a controversy over it, even here.

MvdV>> With 20/20 hinsight it may indeed have been better not to sign
MvdV>> international aggreements with the US.

RW> That would work both ways. Then you wouldn't be bitching about it.

Then I would have no reason to bitch as any attempts to inpose your laws on
us would have no leg to stand on.

MvdV>> They always explain eveything to their own advantage and very
MvdV>> seldom hounour their part of the deal.

RW> That probably depends on which side of the toast is buttered.

The US a is a powerful nation and they use that power to see that they
always get the long end of he stick.

MvdV>> They probably wont go away entirely. It will just fade into
 MvdV>> oblivion. Like BSA.

RW> What you perceive as 'fading away' may be the silence of the
RW> prosecuted...too proud to tell everyone about their sentences.

Dream on.

Michiel
