I hope this isn't noise to Thees' problem, but I've observed WinXP has a
nasty habit of reenabling a manually disabled NIC, whenever it thinks
connectivity is in trouble.  No pattern to it.  Have you seen this on any
of your 2k machines?  I never have.  I think it's an artifact of too much
sneaky private talk between recent BIOSes and XP (g).
