| subject: | Penn Reel Spools! |
Hello Jim, ' tis a nice day today.
JH> On your reel, was the flange (aka lip) at one or both ends of the
JH> spool actually bent or warped out of line? I have a hard time
JH> visualizing how this could happen.
Things happen, as in computors !
JH> How did you figure out how and where to mark the rim where the
"lip"
JH> was out of line??
I could see a "whaw" in it as it rotated. So small that it could have
done without the repair. It was not out of line, it was indeed full of
line. Hoootss ! Harummm ! Seriously, as you mentioned to Russell, they
are well put together and easy to take apart. I think that the fault in
mine was from manufacture or the previous owner. The reel is IIRC, of
polished aluminum and I had to be careful not to make it worst.
I do not recall mine being built on small ball-bearings. Rather bronze
ones. The end nipple is to insert a drop of oil on the bearing, be it
ball or bronze. That bronze is of a porous type, seems to me. would
keep the oil longer.
JH> Is that a brand name "Monel", or monel as in "monel
metal?"
Monel metal, Jim. I am under the impression that it is copper alloy of
sort. Will not rot on you, except maybe in salt water. The strands are
really tiny. There are again IIRC, maybe 10-12 of them.
JH> Lakers? Yeah, yeah, and you couldn't bring back a bit of the meat to
JH> share with a fish-loving friend here in FL.
For sentimental reasons, Jim, I go back laker fishing on a lake that my
father "owned" years ago. Now public access. I limit my catch to 1/day.
One has to respect nature and this is my effort. Deer hunting was also
very nice. When they opened it up to the public, the herd was culled in
two years of intense hunter presence. Same for the fishing.
I have too done the -take the bait home and eat it trick-. Is this a
face saver in front of the lady ? I also knew about the corn bit but
never ate any cold. If I lived on a farm maybe !
I sent you a message about meeting soon as we will be departing
Wednesday-on, depending on weather. No reply. Sent it to Juno. 5 days
to go ! You name the day and the place, I am free 24/7 but not for
long.
Be good.
