I suspect that some haven't learned _how_ to rename the subject
line of the messages they post?

I remember. I've mentioned many times that Microsoft still
maintains data for W31 and free update files for DOS and W31. I
think what is 'lost' is the ongoing efforts to go back and
fix/improve older versions. The information and even free
downloads are going to be there for some time if Microsoft
continues as they have done for DOS and W31. 

Business users with older OS complain and Microsoft backs down.
