BL> I like a blank at the top.

FM> I can see that, matches your head.

BL> Why don't you leave a blank line at the top?

 FM> There's far too many blank lines in this universe already;
FM> YOU'RE compounding the problem, I'm not about to.

Blank lines are much maligned. Blank lines offer great value for
money. For the expenditure of one lousy byte (#13) you get a whole
line of nothing across the screen. For just 25 byes (not even a full
line), I can send you a whole blank screen with absolutely nothing on
it in full colour). If Rod Speed used more #13 and less of the rest,
his popularity would soar.

FM> I have concluded that a SOT is necessary in one rare
FM> circumstance (and therefore should be present in a much larger
FM> set of not-so-rare circumstances at least) and that EOT is
FM> never necessary. See my long message to Paul for the
FM> justification, and of course I'd be interested in your comments
 FM> too.

In a rather more random way, I reached that conclusion too. It's not
easy being a Scorpio. The traditional thinkers are Capricorn and Aries
but us Scorpios get there in a drunkard's walk that's lots more fun.

FM> There is another, valid, reason for SOT.

It defines the first line if it's not AREA:. That's all it does. A
blank would do the same thing and need no processing.

Bob
