Last year when ND finished with a record NOT worthy of an Alliance Bowl bid,
they whined and took their ball home like spoiled little children when the
BowlMeisters used their head and gave the bids to more deserving teams.
Having been spoiled by success, the Golden Domers couldn't live with the fact
that for once, the bowl committees wanted to give the bid to teams that
deserved it. Notre Dame said that they didn't play second class citizens and
even had the gall to talk about how much of a difference in money there was
between the bowls that THEY wanted and the ones that they deserved. People
around the country (that is, people who weren't Notre Shame fans) attacked
them for being so shallow and their fans came to their defense using the
company line to defend their actions.
I said that I'd like to see what would happen if ND continues to struggle for
a few years and didn't get bowls bids. Would they continue to be arrogant if
they were to finish 6-5 or would they swallow their pride and take the lower
bid. Well, it didn't take that long for them to swallow their pride after a
7-5 season. What's really funny is how they rationalize taking this bid
(Well, we did finish up 6-1). I wonder if ND decided that it was better to
take this bid than earn even more scorn from all the bowls, who'd probably
end up telling them to stay home if this trend of lousy seasons continues and
ND keeps turning down bids.
