Back at RIT, [Rochester NY] I did a study on engines; back in the
30's the Nazis had a design for a diesl twin engine *bomber* with
a range over 3000 miles. Seems the weight of the engines plus
that of the *fuel* was less than that of gasoline!
Hitler, in one of his typical shortsighted moves, scrapped the
plan opting for a short range cheaper gas design. In flight
refueling wouldda been less dangerous with diesel, and they
wouldda been able to bomb New York!
