Terry spied a message from Frank Glover to Paul Vasso
on 02-0497 20:58 about HEARING SHUTTLE-MIR-S
Hello Frank
PV> The Mir space station is only 400km above the
PV> earth so listening to it's
PV> transmissions should not be difficult. This also
 PV> depends on whether they
PV> are in sleep mode (approx. the same day/night times as Russia).
PV> Packet radio is usually working all the time as it
 PV> works automatically.
PV> If you have PKTMON12.ZIP and the Hamcomm interface
 PV> these packet signals
PV> can be decoded easily. I have the frequency for
 PV> packet somewhere around
PV> here if you need it, 437.??? MHz.
 FG>
FG> I have heard packet bursts at 145.800. Also, be aware of a 70 cm
FG> repeater on the station running 24 hours, presently. Downlink is
FG> 437.950 mhz. My Yaesu HT on a car antenna hears it virtually full
FG> quieting, but my Pro-2004 going to a discone antenna on the roof can
FG> only discern a decrease in noise at those times.
I have had no luck hearing anything after a couple weeks of trying
despite having been tracking it with STSPLUS. It may be due to the fact
that I only have an indoor antenna, I'm not sure. I wish I would hear
something, but I guess I'll keep trying. Have a good one.
     Terry
