Blame the fact that we have 4 more letters in our alphabet than you. ;) Two
of those occupy the positions of the [] keys on an US keyboard.

If I remember correctly, one can use Strg-Esc to bring up the menu. I'm
sure there are alternate key combinations to pressing all the Windows keys.
