It took me a while, but by dint of drinking coffee day and night
for the last month, and getting by on 1hrs sleep (grin!) I
finally got around to making bread a-la-Patterson.
I took a newly-emptied Maxwell House 1Kg coffee can, rinsed it in
hot water and set it out to dry. Made a slightly larger batch of
bread dough, greased the can liberally with whatever fat was
sitting in the empty margarine container in the freezer (either
beef or mutton, whatever got clarified recently), and baked at
375ø for 25 minutes.
The loaf slid out with a few taps. It's a *KEEN* loaf, circular,
neat-o, with decorative ridges around the outside. Nary a hint of
paint smell in the bread, although I noticed some enamel-baking
smell early on in the baking.
All this is rather timely, because I have promised home-baked
bread for whoever shows up for my walk-and-a-talk-and-a-fork
afternoon Sunday. I'll be able to mix the dough in the morning,
then bake, say, five such loaves in case a lot show up. I imagine
that I can freeze unused loaves by placing the soft-plastic can
lid on the can and popping it into the freezer.
That probably gives me a chance at carting my dough someplace an
baking it in-situ. Very tidy.
