    This will happen no matter what machine you're playing on... you should 
talk your buddy into letting YOU be the host sometimes, as you can be assured 
that he is not experiencing what you are.  
    I believe it says this in the README file, but the host in a Quake 
deathmatch game will get no slowdown, while whoever is dialing in will 
experience a several millisecond delay in any action.  Yes, it's a pain to 
deal with, but necessary if you're dialing into a server.
