Not so much that I rushed it, I just wanted to see how it would
react if I cut the engine on final in a standard approach configuration. As
expected, the result was an immediate dive toward the ground, and raising
flaps immediately was the only way to bring the aircraft anywhere near
the glideslope again. If the pilot of the aircraft in Avon Florida had
reacted similarly, the result may have been different. OTH, they DID
crash within a quarter mile of the approach end, whereas I tried it at
2.3 DME and had a little more room to play with. Good thing you can
walk away from a simulator. :-)
