i got motivated enough to look in "professional photoshop" where
the following explanation is given:-
c-m-y-k is the abbreviation for the four inks - cyan magenta yellow and
black. these four are sometimes refered to as the process colours. k is the
abbreviation for black because, at one time, it was shorthand to refer to
cyan as blue and magenta as red so b is abiguous.
