| subject: | eCs LVM and TP`s Was Re: Intel Pentium 4 with OS/2 Warp |
I believe we HAVE the problem here. New IBM TP model T41
attempting to load eCs 1.1. Blew away the XPPro preload (just 5.0gb).
Built 5 partitions with miniLVM.
PROBLEM: miniLVM cannot set a volume bootable after the 1024 cyl
limit. (this TP has a 40gb HDD, 1024 cyl is approx 8.5gb)). ECs 1.1
was installed into a volume below 1024 limit and the CL version of
LVM used. It would not set a volume bootable either, above 1024
cyl.
RESULT: your eCS boot volume is there confined to area between 5
and 8.5gb if you want to retain the XP preload. Unacceptable, right?
In case you have forgot, eCS will not install into a vol that is not
made "bootable".
There is some incompatibility of (current) TP hard drives and LVM.
We only have one TP here so don't have any idea how widespread this
problem is on TP's or or other machine hard drives.
I posted to ecs.support.lvm NG two days ago with no real
acknowledgement of this problem by anyone.
Kris Steenhaut: how come you are aware of this? Where is it
documented. Be aware, the above info is from personal observation
and grunt over the last 5 days. (read: not nice)
