 LE> Only orientations I've ever seen ruled out were
"faceplate" pointing 
 LE> up or down. In that position, the heads are fighting gravity. 

 LE> Upside down shouldn't be a problem.
Well, however, if a drive goes bad and I want to ask the manufacturer for a
replacement, I better follow the instructions, and if they say upside down
is not okay... ;)
