I think it is the cosmetic value really. I hadn't thought of the health 
ssue.
Though if I believe the current hype on TV then I would guess the iron would
be useful. Especially if it could be digested:-)

Well, I have found in the past that phosphoric acid was excellent at halting 
rust.
Seemingly it converts the rust into some sort of inert metal and bingo end of 
rust problem.
Wasn't sure about the health aspect of it though.
