PF> DS> I have started going through the Real-World > DS> Programming for OS/2 2.1 and I have already stumbled. > DS> The return from the hWndFrame = WinCreateStdWindow > DS> function is 0. (I left out all the parameters just for PF>You didn't post enough code to go on, but a common mistake >is to ask for a resource (FCF_MENU or FCF_ICON, for >example), and then not have such resource defined in your >*.RC file (or even worse, you completely forget to >compile/attach the resources). Thanks to everyone who responded to my distress signal (bellow). Shortly after sending the message, I remembered my own sage advise: RTFM! There within Borlands doc's was the key - the resource file. As Peter F., and others, here deduced, I hadn't included the .rc file in my project file. The examples in the book are command line, so I messed up in the translation. Using the debugger, I found that the program hung on the message loop, that is, it never entered the WndProc. It sure was nice to see that first window "pop" onto the desktop! Reminds me of my first IBM mainframe assembly/ISPF program. I also had a "problem" with a seemingly "sticky" mouse, that would hang in the middle of the screen, usually. RTFM, again. The LogiTech doc's led me to their BBS, where I found their one page description of how to clean the trackman. Sheesh, what a rookie! Thanks for the tip on the app killer, I will track it down. I'm glad EggHead brought the price of the INTEL 14.4 into my "comfort" zone, $99. Its good to be online to all of this information, even if it is a bear keeping up with the messages. ___ X OLX 1.52 X Patience is a virtue that carries a lot of wait --- Maximus/2 2.01wb* Origin: OS/2 Desktop * Escondido, CA * 619-743-2511 * V.FC (1:202/344) SEEN-BY: 12/2442 54/54 620/243 624/50 632/348 640/820 690/660 711/409 410 413 SEEN-BY: 711/430 807 808 809 934 942 712/353 623 713/888 800/1 @PATH: 202/344 301 1 3615/50 229/2 12/2442 711/409 54/54 711/808 809 934 |
