I get that same response if I address hobbes as "ftp.hobbes.nmsu.edu"
using "hobbes.nmsu.edu" gives "collecting objects
............................................................."

>I then played with it a bit and found that if I do an 'open as' and
choose command line it brings up a command line ftp session asking for the
password. I tried details, tree, and icon (default) and all got the above
error. I then tried 'split view' (xworkplace) and it works fine.

Hi Andy,
I'd had the same experience [forever, since HOST introduced - with
MCP1?], using other than command-line menuitem, but never even thought
to try the Split-View option, which I rarely use as I have Object
Navigators in OD anyhow, but decided to give it a go here.

I tried it against "hobbes.nmsu.edu" in that Open-mode, but it just sits
there forever "collecting objects".
"UNIX Type:L8" gets immediately returned by "Query host OS".

Did you try it against hobbes?
