Kids may not be products, but _graduates_ are.
If a HS gets a reputation for ill-trained graduates, prospective
employers will not buy its "product". This has happened at the college level
with some state colleges in Pennsylvania that have such a poor reputation
that some companies just will not send recruiters to them.
Schools are a service business in some senses, a manufacturing business
in others.

Kennels also produce things with feelings.
They are part of a major industry that is best evaluated as a
manufacturer of products that will be sold.
