Hi Bob,

Hmmm, I wonder if all this relates to what part of the world one lives in.......;-)

BS> I lost confidence with Seagate years ago when
BS> their ST251's seemed to have a 50%+ failure rate.

My very first HD was an RLL ST238 and it was still running perfect 6 years
later when it became too small to be useful and so was retired...

BS> I've been using Hitachi, they're extremely quiet also, and do have a
 BS> 36mo warranty from 1st retail sale.

Of the 3 Hitachi drives I have had the longest one lasted 31 months, the
shortest 14 months.......;-(

 > I used Western Digitals for years but lately they just aren't what they
 > once were.

I have never had a WD drive, just never been an option for me...

My first SCSI drive was an early 3.5 inch Fujitsu from ~1989 and it was
still running perfect in 1998 when I removed it (too small)...

MY current IBM SCSI drives have been running since 1996 and the first one
died about 3 months ago...

BS> It depends on what OS, we're using a slew of 250gb drives in a RAID5
BS> array under Linux with good results.

What Raid Controller would that be?

BS> I lost interest with Maxtor for a while after their buyout of
 BS> Miniscribe.

I had 2 x Maxtors but neither lasted more than about 30 months...

I have been tossing up moving off SCSI lately, but I must admit I really do
LOVE the way SCSI works...

Cheers.............pk.
