You live in the Netherlands, a country where one can be anywhere one wants
to be in three hours or so. I can't get out of the Yukon in three hours
and even getting to Vancouver takes 2.5 hours by plane and 24 hours by car.
I have friends and acquaintances stretching across 4000+ miles and one has
to work at retaining those.

But my node is directly reachable. That you can't reach it is not my
problem but others can and do.

When my system was a POTS system, it was accessible to anyone who wanted to
call it. That did not happen very often but I had calls from places as far
away as Amsterdam.
MvdV> Yes it does. Lok it up in FTS-5000. "Pvt" means
"not callable by
MvdV> POTS" and that is exactly what you are.
I'd suggest you re-read FTS-5000 again. Note the following copied from
that document:
===================
Pvt --
Defines a private node with unlisted number. Private nodes
are only allowed as members of local networks.
Hold --
Defines a node which is temporarily down,or is a region/zone
independent node which is reachable via IP only. Mail may be
sent to it and is held by its host or coordinator.
=====================
IP nodes have listed numbers are listed addresses and are not
"Pvt". One might argue that my node should have the
"Hold" flag but my ZC has advised me that this is not necessary
because my node is directly reachable.
MvdV> It does. P4 syas you should as a minumum be reachable during ZMH.
MvdV> Your "number" of 000-000-000 does not answer during ZMH. You
MvdV> are in violation of policy.
If my number was listed as 000-216.126.122.38 which is sanctioned by
FTS-5000, it still would not answer your telephone during ZMH but you would
have no basis to object to it. And if the authors of FTS-5000 had
understood that IP nodes that did not have fixed IP addresses would obtain
fixed domain addresses to deal with this, the number field could contain
sequences like "000-northof60.tzo.com"
MvdV> There is an even greater part that needs new software (that is
MvdV> not presently available) to handle your case properly.
What new software? Anyone who needs to connect with me directly needs only
BinkD software and an Internet connection.
MvdV> That does not change the fact that you are selfish. The way you
MvdV> are listed causes problems for many and that is annoying. The
MvdV> problem can be solved. But you refuse to change your node number
MvdV> because you do not want to let go of your "vanity plates".
The way I am listed may have slight glitches which will be fixed as soon as
I can reach my RC. But the listing is for the most part acceptable in Zone
1 which is still where I am located.
You might consider waking up and smelling the coffee. The future of
Fidonet is not in POTS nodes but in IP nodes and the sooner you started
understanding that might assist you in your election campaign for the FTSC.
Take care,
