Hi Albert. I agree with you. I spoke with at least 1 exhibitor that says
that when you put the amount of set-up time that some exhibitors require
against the amount of time they have to exhibit which is roughly an hour and
45 minutes during the lunch break during the actual convention, and that is
only if the session ends on time, some of them are figuring it is just not
worth the bother. Exhibit time has been cut back during recent years to
where we have all day Sunday and Monday and then only the lunch breaks
Tuesday through Friday with the possible exception of 2 mornings before the
session. During the lunch break people are trying to get lunch and do other
things. I think that is too little time for exhibitions when you consider
the amount of people trying to get to them.
As far as Seeing Eye is concerned $500.00 may be a drop in the bucket true,
but it is $500.00 less that they can spend improving their services to blind
graduates and students. They've been around longer than the N.F.B., since
1929 to be exact and they perform a valuable and viable service to those that
want it.
While it may be true that they could do more to hire more blind people on
their staff, they have not sought Nac accreditation and they don't pay
subminimum wages.
