ok... have added utf-8 read translation in addition to the existing iso
translation in my xlat.cfg...
now i've found that my news reader, xnews, does not have support for
character sets so i found a hack that adds control lines for this...
the hack uses custom header lines and
* sets Mime-Version: 1.0
* sets Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1
* sets Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit
in the subject line, i've placed the highbit characters alt-128 thru alt-157
and i'm going to duplicate them in this message's body with double quotes
around them... let's see how it falls apart now ;)
