 You are right. Some of the smaller fish have black dots on their sides 
 next to the gill plates. When I was looking through a fishing catalog 
 I saw the "fat free" shad lure and some other shad lures and they 
 look the same, all have the dot. On TV they said shad are plankton 
 feeders. But there are definately carp and goldfish in the river, 
 I saw them. Decent size fish. One carp was 40 cm long. One day
 I'll catch them.
