SPOILER WARNING - Spoiler information about 20 lines down. Bail out now.
Last weekend I got a chance to rent the latest animated Batman movie:
Sub-Zero. My girlfriend refused to watch it with me because she insisted we'd
seen it at the movies a while back. Sigh.
I watched it by myself and enjoyed it thoroughly. I'd heard complaints that
the animation and voice acting didn't live up to the regular animated TV
series. With the exception of _some_ of the computer animation, I beg to
differ. Overall, I thought the animation was slightly better than the TV
series, and some of the computer animation was downright impressive. The
voice acting was right on. If any of the series regulars weren't doing their
regular voices, I couldn't hear the difference.
SPOILER STUFF STARTS HERE...
The plot was typical of the series. Nothing to complain about there, except
that Mrs. Fries needed an unspecified organ transplant to survive, right?
And Mr. Freeze kidnapped Barbara "Batgirl" Gordon to get at her organ because
there were no dead donors, right? So how did Mrs. Fries get cured by the end
of the movie? Did another donor die? Was an organ necessary to begin with?
All in all, I'd say that Batman: Sub-Zero is well worth the rental fee and a
must-see for any fans of the animated TV series.
