| subject: | Web page - prevent select/copy |
From: John Beckett While following links from Slashdot re the Vista network issue I just posted about, I found a page where it was hard to select text in order to copy a wanted sentence. BTW the following link is quite interesting for those using Vista - apparently there is a diagnostics tool that allows you to disable window scaling without the command prompt netsh stuff. It's also interesting that the way to run the tool is to click a "res://" link in the web page! http://www.tech-recipes.com/rx/1744/vista_tcp_cannot_communicate_primary_dns_se rver Para 3 of the article starts "If you try to diagnosis this problem...". What is that prevents me from selecting text in para 3, prior to a copy? Is it simply a bug in my IE6, or has the web site done some tricky formatting to exploit an issue in IE6 that prevents it from doing a copy? My IE6 browser has scripting off. This site is in my Internet zone. I've noticed this on a few sites. It's not a problem - I know I can View Source to get the text. I'm just curious. I see that Firefox does not have the issue in the two IE6 browsers I've tried.
