You are right, I missed part of the discussion.  Sorry 'bout that.  :^(

Perhaps, being home with their family was more of an impact than the
hunger, etc..  I don't know that family, so I don't know for sure, but I
do know some family situations that I have seen where the street was the
better alternative.
