W2K was the pre-XP version of windows and doesn't really _change_
although there have been "updates" to patch security leaks.

Linux is definitely a better choice for legacy hardware (generally)
although W31 is, IMO, a much better GUI for legacy hardware than
any variety of Linux would be.  I've tried Linux GUI type browsing
on my legacy equipment and it's just not enjoyable at all while
Opera or even Netscape v4.08 under W31 is not too bad.
