I would just open the Templates folder from the desktop and RMB on the 
LSS drive there.  Create shadow and templates should be available under 
the Opened tab.  Double click on it and it will create a shadow in the 
Templates folder.  Then you RMB on LSS (not the shadow) and move and 
then choose where you want to put it. 
I don't think it will affect the size of your ini files, just the 
desktop.  I never discourage someone from making a backup so if you want 
to create an archive then all it will do is use a little more space in 
the archive than would otherwise be necessary.   I would then create a 
new archive afterwards too, in case you have to replace with the archive 
later it is already got the LSS templates off of the desktop.
