Hi Maurice, Greetings!
MK> That is my basic computational history up to this point in time.

MK> How about yourself?
Well, as you might not expect from reading my posts, I am not a newbie.
(Also, I am an accomplished user of multiple negatives.) First
significant computer experience was in the late 60s using the batch
ExecII on a Univac 1108. By the 70s and into the 80s I was working on
real time data collection and display systems based on DG Novas using
RDOS with Fortran and a little assembler. Then, I became a farmer and
have followed PC developments primarily as a hobby.
I have been an ardent user of DesqView since the 386s came out. Unlike
most DV users, I have not operated a BBS; I just use it primarily as a
single user. (Although I do have a DV system that runs DOS sessions on
two serial dumb terminals and accepts phone calls for a fourth DOS
user.)
I've been disappointed in the features provided by both DRDOS's
multi-tasker and Linux's. I miss the scaleable windows as well as the
keyboard control over cutting and pasting between windows.
Even with a fair amount of computer experience (unfortunately none was
Unix), I find Linux very difficult to learn. I recall spending DAYS
trying to locate the symbolic link command; someone in this echo finally
gave it to me, LN! Keyboard handling is a continuing frustration. Much
Linux software seems to be written for default keyboards other than the
PC. Rarely do I encounter a Linux program which has working
, , , , , , and
keys in the default configuration.
OTOH, it is quite amazing the progress Linux has made; I remember just a
few years ago, reading about version 0.99!
Willie
