subject: Discount Calls

On (31 May 95) Bill Grimsley wrote to Peter Pilbeam...

Just butting in here (as usual!), Bill.

I've been offering a couple of discount systems, which seem to be all

very respectable and above board - Netex, for Australian calls via Optus

or Telecom, and Kallback for international calls.

BG> Interesting. The highest discount I currently know of is only 15%.

The Netex system provides a rebate and I know of plenty of people

getting more than 15% (I also know some getting less).

Kallback is a true discount system; i.e. you just pay a lower amount,

with the amount of the saving depending upon your source and

destination locations around the world.

Netex are resellers who buy in bulk and get a substantial reduction.

They can afford to pass most of this to subscribers and still do very

nicely by earning a small percentage of a lot of bills!

BG> So you say. As they don't currently exist, I'm yet to be convinced.

That's your prerogative. With Netex & Kallback, it's a very small

gamble - a one off $25 registration fee to sign up for both. And, if

you didn't save that much out of your first bill, why would you bother

anyway?

BG> Sure, but I'd be far more concerned about the possibility of the reseller

Good point. However, we have copies of letters from Telecom and Optus

explaining exactly what would happen if Netex went down the gurgler.

Basically, you would just revert to the Telecom/Optus service and cease

to get your rebate.

Bye

... I'm middle of the road. Isn't everyone?
