-=> Quoting Paula Nowak to All <=-
PN> I was just wondering if anyone could help me with a little problem
PN> that I have with my teils? I have to greys and one luthino. Anyways I
PN> would like to mate the luthino and the male grey. The problem is that
PN> the luthino doesn't want anything to do with the male grey. Is there
PN> anything I can do to help her like him. That way it was I had to put
PN> the younger grey female in with the male grey and they get just
PN> fine.Let's just say that he much quiter (sp) now. But neither of the
PN> grey's can stand the luthino. So what do I do now?? And what is a good
PN> age to let my grey start breeding? We had her for almost for a year so
PN> she is about 8 to 10 months old. On mother's day we would have her for
PN> a year.Any help would be greatly appreciated.ttyl
It is not unusual for tiel's to show a preference for mates. First make
sure your lutino is a female, if that is a for sure, you can either
pair her with the male, and let them have time to bond, and see if they
will for that matter, or get her a different mate. Your hens should be
a min. of a year for breeding and males can be slightly younger. I had
a male that did a wonderful job with a proven hen when he was 8 months
old, but most will need to be a year. If this is the first time you
have bred these pairs, they may not do well with the first and possibly
even the second clutch, and you need to be aware of this, usually by
the time the birds are re-set up after a rest from the first two clutches
they will do a good job on the third.
