Are we having fun yet Tom?

Thank you for the run-down on connectors, invaluable stuff!

TW> At those frequencies clamping is not a good Idea. Any distortion of the
TW> Ground Braid to Center conducter geometry will create signal loss basicly.

So as long as the cable itself is not deformed in the process then, it
sounds like it may work. I have in mind here, brass tube, plastic, and
epoxy in some combination, with all attention to grounding of course.

TW> The BNC even has some problems. I would lean toward the SMR fitting but

The SMA connector seems favoured by the industry, and was my first choice
simply because that is what they use on both my Belkin PCI card and SMC
router (and at least one brand of external antenna), but they have used
reverse polarity (variously listed as SMA-R and RP-SMA). This was
impossible to find locally, and no-one would commit to a time-frame for a
special order. It does seem to be the best choice, but I will save this
refinement for a more polished effort and settle for the 75 ohm connecor as
the best compromise for the time being.

To return to type mismatch and reflected signals, is the term
"reflected" literal or does it describe some similar property? Is
this reflection always just back towards the transmitter, or away from any
interface? Assuming that two sets of connectors were exactly spaced, it
would seem a resonance might be induced in the cable at the broadcast
frequency or a harmonic. Would the signal then be re-enforced, overwhelmed
with noise, or would the effect just damp out due to other factors?

Thanks again.

... It could be worse ...
Paul
